Intensive Therapeutic Respite

  • If your child's behaviors are unacceptable...
  • If your child acts bossy and in control...
  • If your child has RAD, PTSD, bipolar, ADHD or other behavioral issues...
  • If you and your family need a break...
  • If you're willing to implement new parenting techniques...

...then intensive therapeutic respite may be right for you. Your child stays for a few hours, typically 3-5, then returns back to the family.

Writing & reading assignments are part of intensive therapeutic respiteAt therapeutic respite, your child practices being respectful and responsible. Typically, the children who come for intensive therapeutic respite suffer from RAD (reactive attachment disorder) and PTSD. Some children and teens, however, may have other diagnoses including autism, asperger's syndrome, sensory issues, bipolar, and more.

Only one child is provided with therapeutic respite at a time.

Intensive therapeutic respite keeps your child's world very small and in addition to chores, includes bibliotherapy and art activities relating to feelings and behaviors. Their time here also includes physical activities meant to help expend energy and increase coordination and the mind-body connection.

While at intensive therapeutic respite, your child does chores along with reading and writing assignments, appropriate to their age, and they may spend part of their time being bored and thinking about their poor choices. They eat healthy but boring food and go for walks with me. They are within my line-of-sight supervision at all times. They do not watch TV, play games on the computer, or have pet privileges. I want them to miss the choices and activities they have when they're at home.

I do not fix your child. Instead, I provide a motivating experience for your child (helping to motivate them to change their behaviors at home), along with suggestions for parenting tools that provide structure and nurturing. If you're currently satisfied with your parenting approach and are looking for someone to change your child, then I'm not the right respite provider for you. I only work with highly motivated parents: parents who are driven to change, modify, and improve their parenting techniques.

At the end of your child's respite stay, you will receive a summary report of what your child did, along with suggestions for parenting techniques you might implement at home. Any additional parent coaching or in-home assistance is arranged for separately.

The rate for intensive therapeutic respite is $20 per hour.
